Ways to listen

When our kids say church is boring, we might think we’ve failed them in some way. But what if this statement is an invitation to deeper conversation and an opportunity to learn how children experience church.

In this week’s episode, Lindsey and Ahyuwani chat with Tim Beilharz, a kid’s pastor at Soul Revival Church and lecturer in intergenerational ministry at Youthworks College in Australia. Tim shares how helping kids identify with the people of God addresses this issue.

Meet our Guest

  • Tim Beilharz

Tim Beilharz is the Children’s Pastor at Soul Revival Church in Sydney and lectures in Children’s Ministry and Intergenerational Ministry at Youthworks College.

Tim is the author of The Child in God’s Church and continues to research and write on the intersection of theology, sociology, child development, and ministry practice.

Tim lives in Sydney with his wife and kids and finds few things more enjoyable than grabbing a strong coffee with either a book or a friend and thinking through how to help kids know, love, and obey King Jesus.

I don't have to be entertaining for entertainment's sake neither do I have to be boring for boring's sake. It is finding that wisdom in the middle: What's the particular aspect they're struggling with? Can I help with that in a way that blesses the entire congregation?
